La Trobe University is an Australian, multi-campus, public research university with its flagship campus located in the Melbourne suburb of Bundoora.
The university was established in 1964, becoming the third university in the state of Victoria and the twelfth university in Australia.
These grants were to be matched by equivalent state grants.
The terms of reference of the committee were to advise the government on all matters concerning the establishment of a third Victorian university.
Many prominent Victorians were involved in La Trobe's establishment process, and there was a strong belief that it was important to increase research and learning in Victoria.
